The University's objective was to create a cutting edge facilities that would be open 24/7 to both the students & staff. The existing Bio-Labs were decommissioned and combined to create larger, more flexible spaces & adjacent offices were converted into a student breakout/study area & amenities. Rooms were reconfigured whilst preserving the heritage features (doors, skirting).

A multipurpose breakout space was furnished with the latest AV Technology & furnishings that encouraged student/staff collaboration and individual study by the use of privacy screens, pods & flexible seating.

Project description:

The Project involved the repurposing of some of the original WAIT/Curtin University Campus buildings including the B101 Administration, B102 ’Hayman Hall’ and B201B Building’s.
A Central Student Services Centre was created in B102 ’Hayman Hall’ by removing the internal
office partitioning and demolishing a 1990’s building extension linking to Building B101. These demolition works allowed the original ‘Brutalist’ Architecture of the hall to be revitalised,
reinstated the Architecture to its original intent and brought back natural light to the hall. Buildings B101 & B201B were both completely internally gutted and new open plan workplaces were created with inclusive staff breakout areas, technology enabled collaborative spaces and the existing courtyard was renovated for the staff’s use.
